Why “eat less and move more” could make you grow fatter than ever before

The problem with current health advice and how to actually lose weight for good

So what is wrong with the advice, “eat less and move more”? It makes sense doesn’t it? If you eat less you will be consuming less calories, and if you move more then you will be burning more calories. So following this advice will result in a caloric deficit and all other things being equal weight loss will be the result.

This is the standard advice that is given to people that need to lose weight and if followed it works for a time, however more often than not the weight returns, with interest. If this is so simple why are so many people failing to lose weight and keep it off? Do they just want to be fat? Hopefully it is obvious that this answer is no, and I think the time for victim blaming is over.

I have been overweight my whole life and so this is a problem close to my heart. As I have grown older however I have realised that this is not a problem that I can ignore forever. I mean there may be a lot of fat people in the world, and there may be a lot of old people in the world, but there are not a lot of old fat people (if you know what I mean).
